Position Overview

About the Role

U-M seeks an innovative CIO to shape the university’s technology vision, lead 600+ IT professionals, and oversee a $150M+ annual IT budget. Reports directly to the Provost.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute university-wide technology and digital transformation strategy
  • Lead cybersecurity, data governance, and privacy initiatives
  • Drive AI and cloud adoption across academic and administrative systems
  • Partner with deans, faculty, and administrative leaders on technology
  • Represent U-M in national higher education technology forums

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s required; Master’s/advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership in large organizations
  • Expertise in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise systems
  • Track record of successful digital transformation initiatives

Compensation

$280,000–$350,000 annually. Executive benefits, TIAA-CREF retirement, relocation assistance.
